In today's fast-paced world, we're often caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, treating many of our actions as mere means to an end. However, there's a transformative power in slowing down and being fully present in each moment. This principle, deeply explored in my recent conversation with Spenser Brassard, can significantly impact not only our overall well-being but also our fertility journey.

The Power of Presence

Spenser beautifully articulates that when we're merely going through the motions, our actions lack the vital energy and emotion that can truly make a difference. She references the insightful book, "The Slowdown Diet," which suggests that how we approach eating mirrors how we approach life. Reflecting on my own habits, I realized how quickly I consume my meals, acknowledging the need to slow down and savor the experience.

This concept extends beyond eating. Spenser mentions a fascinating study about the French lifestyle, where extended, leisurely meals contribute to their overall health and slim physiques. The key takeaway? Mindfulness and presence can transform simple actions into enriching experiences.

Slowing Down and Embracing Pleasure

One practical way to incorporate mindfulness is to slow down and truly engage with whatever we're doing. Whether it's eating, working, or even intimate moments, being fully present can enhance the experience. I shared my shift from hurried lunches at my nine-to-five job to taking intentional breaks, which significantly improved my quality of life. This simple change allowed me to tune into my needs and make more aligned choices.

Spenser highlights that our cultural conditioning often makes us equate worthiness with productivity and sacrifice. However, embracing joy and pleasure in our daily lives can create a powerful energetic shift. She emphasizes the importance of planning time for pleasurable activities, whether it's enjoying a meal, listening to music, or taking a relaxing bath.

Reframing Productivity and Intentionality

Spenser and I challenge the notion that only productive activities are valuable. Rest, relaxation, and pleasure are not just indulgences but essential components of a healthy, balanced life. I passionately advocate for prioritizing intentionality over productivity, suggesting that taking time to rest and enjoy life can actually enhance our overall productivity.

The Sacredness of Creation

Spenser introduces the idea of viewing every action as sacred as conceiving a child. By recognizing the divine energy in all our creations, we can shift our perspective and reduce the immense pressure we often place on ourselves. This deeply resonates with me, reminding us that our creative potential extends beyond human life to every aspect of our existence, from the meals we prepare to the projects we undertake.

Practical Tips for a Mindful Fertility Journey

  1. Plan for Pleasure: Incorporate activities that bring you joy and relaxation into your daily routine. Whether it's a walk in nature, a favorite hobby, or quality time with loved ones, make space for pleasure.

  2. Mindful Eating: Slow down during meals. Savor each bite and appreciate the flavors and textures. This practice not only enhances your enjoyment but also supports better digestion and overall health.

  3. Intentional Rest: Prioritize rest and downtime. Remember that rest is productive and necessary for maintaining balance and well-being.

  4. Self-Inquiry: Ask yourself what you've been putting on hold until you achieve a certain goal, such as getting pregnant. Start incorporating those activities into your life now, fostering a sense of fulfillment and presence.

  5. Reframe Your Mindset: Shift from a productivity-focused mindset to one that values intentionality and presence. Recognize the sacredness in all your actions and creations.

The journey to fertility and beyond is deeply personal and often challenging. However, by embracing mindfulness, slowing down, and prioritizing pleasure and presence, we can create a more fulfilling and aligned life. As Spenser wisely notes, we're not just vessels for potential pregnancy; we're vessels for all kinds of creation and joy. By living in alignment with our true nature and desires, we open ourselves up to infinite possibilities.

Let’s take these insights to heart and begin integrating them into our daily lives, creating space for joy, relaxation, and true presence. After all, life is not just about reaching our goals but also about savoring the journey along the way.
